Wrap onion wedges with bacon; secure with long wooden toothpicks. Place wedges in a large shallow dish. Combine sugar, vinegar, and molasses; drizzle over onion wedges. Cover and chill 1 hour. Remove onion wedges from marinade, reserving marinade.
